Salford Royal Hospital

Overview

Recognised as one of the best hospitals in the NHS, Salford Royal Hospital aims to deliver the safest and best patient care. Located in Manchester and with in excess of 7000 people working at the trust, Salford Royal is one of the larger hospitals within the Greater Manchester area.

As part of an ongoing refurbishment of their existing departments, LiP medical were invited to develop a solution for the bedhead supply units in the Operating Theatres recovery area during the latest phase of refurbishment.

Within the recovery area one of the most important factors to the clinical and design team was a space that remained functional but remained in keeping with the interior design to provide a less clinical feel.

Problems
Whilst aesthetics are a key factor in the design of the patient space, the fundamental reason for the bedhead supply unit cannot be forgotten especially in a recovery area where there is a much higher level of care required than in a normal ward. The units must always be designed to meet the safety standards whilst maintaining their functionality and overall ergonomics.
Solutions
The Milan unit integrates two fully compliant medical supply units either side of the bed which are individually configured to house the power, data, nurse call and medical gases to the project teams requirements. The
Milan unit at Salford Royal was configured specifically to include low level ventilation which is now a standard requirement in recovery areas.
